I love the eco Ganeshas in Blr in Mumbai there aren't that easily available and there is no awareness about it. Sad but true.

Humm as a foodie I can imagine the taste of a modak flavoured ice cream. And, invariably, you make it in time! Thanks to the festive atmosphere on our streets!

At Manek Chowk, ALL the streets change from being Kite street, to Holi street, to Rakhi street, to Diwali crackers street to ...??? You can be immersed in the place and the festival for at least a whole month before it chooses to do anything else! So, if it's Sankranti time, almost EVERY shop there is selling kites! small ones, big ones, chinese kites! And on the streets in Manek chowk or other parts of the city, they are making 'manja'. You walk anywhere in ahmedabad and it's all about the festival. During Raksha Bandhan this time, the mithai shops had such attractive shop fronts all over the city! I love the 'santhe'/market concept and like buying fresh veggies there when I can in India. Although recently here in California, I tried this new thing of getting my weekly produce shipped directly from the farmer. I can select the veggies, fruits and it gets packed in a box and delivered on a particular day of the week. Love that they are fresh as opposed to getting cold stored stuff from the supermarket. However, there is a need for ensuring that they do not disrupt traffic flow or the safety of the pedestrian. We have plenty of vendors in our lane, the police turn a blind eye, I suspect they get their 'mamool' from them. Their customers are practically on the road and the pedestrians have no pavements.
PS - I am not sure if I would buy my supply of perishables online. On the other hand, it is QUITE possible that they travel to Gandhi bazaar for flowers or something else just so that they can also visit Vidyarthi Bhavan for a 'khara bhaath and coffee'. I know someone who drives a good distance through some harrowing traffic to buy a bunch of flowers. Some like myself, would pick up a few from the nearest florist, to avoid the trouble. I wonder what will happen to the livelihood of these flower sellers if there were more like me ! But indirectly, I guess we do contribute - for instance if there is a wedding we would place an order and those flowers probably originate from such places. So I guess the plan without a plan is what it would seem to us... those who have to deal with them on a daily basis will know how to source them. radhahttp://mommyliciousma.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
